The Cribs

Photographs from Saturday's Cribs gig at the O2 Academy!  After the constant 80's ear bashing I got from a month at the Summer Pops, it's been a quiet time for live music which ain't been helped by having an injured ankle and I've not really been too rushed into jumping into the pit for a while. But I'm back and on it and I've just started to compile the list of gigs I'm covering between now and Christmas which includes going out to Dubai with the Sound City crowd for De La Soul and a host of other great bands, covering the opening night of The Specials new tour alongside a few other Liverpool Music Week gigs that fit around Dubai Sound City, doing a few arena gigs such as Elton John and Beyonce and then heading into panto season when all the old bands get to do their run up to Christmas gigs!  Lots to follow but for now here's Johnny.....

Johnny Marr

On Saturday I photographed Johnny Marr for a forthcoming exhibition that'll be happening in Liverpool at the end of the year. The show will be all music related and will include work shot since my Pop Cultured book went to print last year. Since then I've shot loads of music work both portrait based and live and this exhibition will include both.  Wanting to keep the show up to date and the content fresh I intended to keep hold of this until the show itself but as I've got the patience of whatever the opposite to a saint is, I've decided to show it today which means I've now got to go and get more new stuff!

This morning I've mostly been organising my scans and the latest images to go up onto my Facebook Archive are from my large catalogue of images from the Berlin Love Parade. 

Long Night

Last night was The Long Night in Liverpool which basically means that most of the art galleries and a load of other venues open up until late at night and one, The A-Foundation, even stayed open right through the night showing films until breakfast was served at 8am!  I didn't stay that long but did manage to get around a fair few venues and this was taken at The Walker where people were getting guided tours of some of the work on display.

Penelope

As well as working on a host of new commercial commissions I've also 'still' been building my stock library which means endless keywording and titling of images and as soon as it's up and running good and proper I'll let you know! Meanwhile here's a photo of Penelope on Wolstenhome Square.

Stock

Tonight I'm supposed to be at a not so secret gig by The View in Liverpool but the ankle is playing up and instead I'm stuck in and working non stop on preparing images for my new stock agency and print sales site. The library is up now though all images will be getting updated and replaced over the next few days and when that's all in place I'll post a  link on here. Meanwhile here's a photograph taken form the top of Radio City Tower or St.John's Beacon to give it it's real name!

Return to The Phil

Last night saw the first performance of the new season of concerts by The Liverpool Phil with Vasily and the band being joined by pianist Simon Trpceski.  The start of the season also brought with it the great news, for both the orchestra and the city itself, that Vasily has signed a contract to stay with The Phil until 2015 and is now known as Chief Conductor. On stage last night he said that the decision had been made because Liverpool is his home before taking the band through a concert played to a house packed to the rafters with the audience even occupying all of the choir stalls!

Donna Berry at NOVAS

Lest We Forget: Remember, impart but remember' is the name of a new exhibition by Donna Berry and the work is on show now at NOVAS.  I did a lot of photography for the show's brochure as well as working on one of the wall pieces which I'm not going to show on here so you'll just have to check it out at the gallery.  More details here.

Good Vibrations

After having to pull out of the weekend's work due to injury and sadly not being able to photograph Creamfields, Mathew Street and Mark McGann's Lennon show, it was good to be back on it last night and hobbling around The Phil to photograph the genius that is Brian Wilson. Aside from the fact that I got to very briefly meet the great man himself, the gig was also incredible and I'm reckoning that Sail On Sailor, Sloop John B and God Only knows were my personal highlights!
