August Bank Holiday is usually my busiest weekend of the year what with Creamfields and the Mathew Street Festival and this year would have been no exception if I hadn't of injured my Achilles Tendon on Friday which has meant laying on the couch all weekend with my ankle on ice! Hopefully back to normalish as of tomorrow so for now here's some old Creamfields photos from 2007 and 2008.
This was some sort of camera club holiday by the looks of it who spent about 20 minutes taking and comparing their close ups of pigeons and all the time swapping lenses, changing flashes and messing about with right angle finders etc etc to get the ultimate in pigeon portraits. Obviously they'd been in Venice long enough to exhaust all other photographic potentials.
In England they're seen as rats with wings and are to be avoided at all costs but on San Marco in Venice, Pigeons seem to held up on some sort of higher level and there's no greater honour than to spend a few hundred Euro on a small bag of bird seed so you can cover your body in it and pray that the birds will eat off you. Must be like good luck or something like being shit on by a seagull! Oh and tomorrow's Pigeon fanciers are even weirder!
Lido De Venezia
The Bridge of Sighs just along from San Marco, in Venice, is one the biggest attractions that the city has to offer or at least it's one of it's most recognisable. Therefore, it's a good place to sell advertising!!!!! Wrong diddly wrong!

Just a few more photos form the waterfont event last weekend and this time it's the turn of the street theatre acts that preceded the final Luminosity show of projections onto the Port Of Liverpool Building.
San Marco, Venice.
This was taken a few weeks ago in Burano which is an island off Venice.
Taken down at the Albert Dock on Saturday afternoon at the On The Waterfront event.
During Saturday night's On The Waterfront performance, in between the fireworks and projections onto the Port Of Liverpool building, a heliosphere appeared over the crowd with a girl suspended from it and for 10 minutes the crowd were in awe as she floated across them and at times was even lowered enough to reach out and touch their hands. Needless to say, having woke up that morning not actually knowing what in God's names a helliosphere was, the whole thing was a bit special! I don't actually know the individual credits for Saturday's events but it was put together by Walk The Plank for Liverpool City Council.
Last night's On The Waterfront event at the Pier Head was incredible and so I'm interrupting posting up anymore Venice photos with one from last night's finale. As well as projections and fireworks, there was also loads of street theatre so there's going to be a good few postings over the next few days from both this event and the event earlier on in the day at the Albert Dock.
Just spent a week or so in Venice which has got to be one of the hardest places to photograph in any sort of original way. Everywhere you go are familiar scenes you've seen a million times before and you're constantly surrounded by hoards of other people taking photographs to the point that I nearly decided not to bother taking photos on more than one occasion. Funnily enough the feeling passed and I came home with thousands of photos I now need to work through! More to follow!
Just a final few from the samba/carnival parade photos I took the other week.
Been away for a week or so but I'm back with loads lined up for the next few weeks but for now here's some more photos from the Samba/Carnival parade from a few weeks ago.
Oh and for the parade's quality control purposes I must point out that the two blokes at the bottom of this post were not part of the official event but joined in at some point when it hit Slater Street/Concert Square but fair play to them as they stuck the distance and were last seen leaving Chinatown gone 10pm looking a bit lost and trying to work out which way the city centre was!
This is from the Brazilian style Samba parade that wove it's way down from the university through town, around the madness of Concert Square and Slater Street and then up to the Chinese arch on Saturday night. More to follow!
Well done to the Liverpool Phil, Greg Francis, all of the Rightful Owners Of The Song singers, all the backstage staff from both the Phil and the Council and the audience themselves who not only turned up in the first place but stayed when the heavens opened!
Last night I checked out the first part of the On The Waterfront event down at the Pier Head with The Phil which was great even though the site was getting battered with rain and although the orchestra had been moved back to keep the water from wrecking those very very expensive instruments, the poor singers and Greg Francis the conductor still seemed to be getting fairly wet. But the band played on and fair play to the crowds for braving the weather and sticking around. I then had to make the decision to photograph either The Real People or Deacon Blue which is like the easiest decision ever so here's some photos of The Realies who look like they've been out in the rain but they haven't, they just like keeping their coats on in really warm venues!
